We’d love to welcome you to Tunbridge Wells Chess Club! Whether you’re a seasoned league player or just rediscovering the game, there’s a place for you here.
Never played before? That’s genuinely fine — see how to learn chess for the fastest route from zero to your first game, then come along.
Our club night runs on Monday evenings at:
Tunbridge Wells & Counties Bridge Club
40 London Road
Tunbridge Wells
TN1 1DL
Come Along First — Your First Visit Is Free
You don’t have to decide anything to play here. Come along on a Monday evening as our guest, with nothing to pay and nothing to arrange in advance — just drop by and introduce yourself, and we’ll make sure you get a game.
You don’t need to be an ECF member to visit, and you don’t need to bring anything: boards, sets and clocks are all here.
What’s Included When You Join
- Weekly club nights (friendly games)
- Club competitions and events throughout the season
- A warm and friendly chess community!
Membership
Once you’ve been along and decided the club is for you, annual membership fees are:
- Adults: £80
- Juniors (under 18): £40
To make things easier, you can either:
- Pay in full at the start of the season, or
- Pay in two instalments — adults £40 now and £40 on 1st January; juniors £20 now and £20 on 1st January.
These are the 2025/26 rates. Fees are reviewed at the AGM on Monday 7 September, and if anything changes for 2026/27 we’ll update this page straight away.
How to Join
- Visit the club on a Monday evening — no need to tell us first, or
- Send us a message using the form at the foot of this page, or email us.
Once we’ve heard from you, our Secretary will guide you through the quick sign-up and payment process.

We look forward to welcoming you over the board!
Come along and play
Tell us you are coming and we will look out for you. Your first visit is free, and you do not need to be a member — or to have played in years.
Would rather use email? Write to secretary@tunbridgewellschess.co.uk. Or skip the introductions entirely and turn up on a Monday — that is genuinely fine.
We use what you send only to reply to you. See our privacy policy.
