Chess in Medway
The Medway towns — Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Strood and Rainham — have two chess clubs, both playing in the Kent county leagues.
Medway Chess Club meets on Wednesday evenings at the English Martyrs Church Community Hall on Frindsbury Road, Rochester. Rainham Chess Club covers the eastern end of the conurbation, also on Wednesday evenings.
Both clubs sharing a night is Medway’s one quirk: if Wednesday is the evening you can’t do, you’ll need to travel — but not far.
If Wednesday doesn’t suit
- Gravesend — Tuesdays at the Waterloo Tavern, down the A2.
- Snodland — Mondays, ten minutes down the A228.
- Maidstone — two clubs, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
- Sittingbourne — Thursdays, along the A2 east.
The full county directory, with every club’s night and venue, is on Chess in Kent.
