How to Set the DGT 2010 Chess Clock

(A quick guide for Tunbridge Wells Chess Club nights)

Note: The tiny instructions on the clock can be hard to read. This is a simpler, case-focused guide.

General Steps (for all modes)

  1. Press the ON/OFF button underneath the clock to power it on.
  2. Use the “+” / “–” buttons (blue buttons) to choose an Option (timing mode).
  3. Press the ✔ (tick) button to confirm.
  4. Enter hours, minutes, and seconds when prompted.
  5. Enter increment (bonus) if the mode supports it.
  6. Repeat for both sides.
  7. Press the play/pause button to finish setup.
  8. Place the lever upright on White’s side to indicate who moves first.

If you make a mistake, just switch off and on again and start over.


🎯 Our Club’s Top 3 Time Controls

1) 15 + 0 (Casual Club Games)

  • Option 03 (manual fixed time mode)
  • Steps:
  1. Set 0:15:00 for both players.
  2. Skip increment (defaults to none).
  3. Finish with play/pause.

➡️ Each player has 15 minutes, no increment.


2) 60 + 10 (Club Championship)

  • Option 18 (single period + Fischer bonus)
  • Steps:
  1. Set 1:00:00 for both players.
  2. Set increment 0:00:10 for both players.
  3. Finish with play/pause.

➡️ Each player has 60 minutes plus 10 seconds added after every move.


3) Time Handicap (Quickplay Competition)

  • Option 03 (manual fixed time mode, usually without increment)
  • Steps:
  1. Set the weaker player’s time (e.g. 0:20:00).
  2. Set the stronger player’s time (e.g. 0:30:00).
  3. Skip increment.
  4. Finish with play/pause.

➡️ Base time is 30 minutes total, split according to grading difference as explained in our Quickplay Competition rules.


⚠️ Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Always check both sides after setting.
  • Short press play/pause to pause mid-game.
  • Hold play/pause for 2 seconds to adjust time manually.
  • If values look wrong, restart the clock and re-enter.
